Patrick spent much of his youth in the mountains of Utah. While completing a two-year service mission in Estonia, he fell in love with the cultures, peoples, and pine forests of Eastern Europe. He has studied East European history and/or family history at Brigham Young University; The Hebrew University of Jerusalem; the University of Tartu; and Princeton University. He currently serves as a content strategist for Eastern Europe at FamilySearch; and teaches beginning paleography at BYU-Idaho.
